Congratulations to Senior Santavia Darden, 18, for the outstanding work she has done on this year’s track team. Darden was named District Champion in the girls’ long jump and District Runner Up in the triple jump. This helped her advance to states, in which she placed 8th in the long jump and in the triple jump. She was also a part of the 4x100 meter relay, along with Kayln Dinkins, Tone Isha Pitt, and Keara McKnight, which finished 7th in the region. This is not her first year at state, as she went to state in 2007 for the 4X400 meter relay, placing 7th.
“My funniest memory of track this year was Naomi coming to practice wearing multiple colors.”
To stay focused before a big meet, Darden likes to listen to music. After high school, she plans to attend South Carolina State. Not only was she a part of the track team, but she was also a member of the Lady Eagles basketball team. Her advice to a future track member is to work hard, stay focused and remember to have fun.
