Are prom tickets too expensive for a place that’s perceived as a less- prestigious prom site then a beach-side hotel? Students are underestimating the potential seeing that it is where cows are held, but truly it's not the issue at all.

The Tommy Lawrence building is actually decorated to the up most quality and its decorated beautifully. Students around school have been talking about how the Volusia County Fairgrounds were picked because it’s not close to hotels and that the students were less apt to get to the hotel, however Principal Intern Carolyn Carbonell explained that proximity was not the issue. She said it was the only place that could accommodate the number of juniors and seniors who purchased tickets.

She also explained that the ticket price is used to cover the cost to rent the facility as well as the DJ decorations, catering, and the photographer.

Some students are wondering why prom is not at the Hilton in Daytona Beach like it was in 2004.

“It’s lame that they can’t have it at a hotel like they did a few years back. They should lower the tickets if they are not going to have it at a better place.” Seeing that our seniors are such a big class, the Hilton will not hold all of our juniors and seniors carbonell said.

Many schools allow seniors and their dates to go to prom. Out of all the Volusia county schools, there are two that still allow their juniors to go to prom.

Carbonell said that it has been a tradition for our school to allow the juniors and seniors to go to prom and if we would like to continue this tradition then we would have to find a building that accommodated all the students, so that is why the fair grounds were picked.
