At-a-glance

Hohman was said to have been a motivational coach, pumping up the wrestlers from the sidelines. No matter what, he was always a big support to the team. - Samantha McGuigan

It is amazing to think that one man can leave such an enormous impact on an organization in just five seasons as its leader.
Larry Hohman was head coach of Penn-Trafford wrestling for the past five seasons.  He led the Warriors to two section championships, and players said he made a substantial impact on the organization by benefiting the lives of many young men.
When talking to many of his wrestlers, it was difficult to find one that did not respect or look up to Hohman as a coach and a role model.
It was a surprise to many, when he resigned due to certain issues occurring with his team outside of wrestling, according to several wrestlers.
Team members said they were informed by a teary eyed Hohman that they would be finishing the season under former assistant coach Rich Ginther.
The news was brought to the team’s attention in their locker room before one of their after school practices.
Team members senior wrestler Willie Bohince said that he was “heartbroken” as he was forced to finish the rest of his senior season without their leader.
“Coach Hohman brought intensity,” said Bohince.
Still dealing with the obstacles of a new head coach and a few minor injuries, the team was forced to put the negatives aside and continue to be one of the top competitiors in Class AAA wrestling.
The team’s first match under Ginther was against the powerhouse Latrobe Wildcats.  The Warriors were brutally defeated, 58-8, with four of their starters fighting injuries.
Seniors Colin Austin and John Doppelhauer were both dealing with injured knees while juniors Casey McGowen and Brady Cameron were both out with concussions.
Despite the Warriors’ injuries, they found themselves wrestling their way into fifth place in the 18-team WCCA tournament.
After the tournament, the team was able to gain its momentum back and defeated Plum, 38-28.
The Warriors then faced a week of preparation, as the section championships were right around the corner.
The Warriors found themselves in a tiebreaker with the Franklin Regional Panthers.  The winner of the tiebreaker was going to be one of the five teams that would advance to the WPIAL playoffs.
Minus all the hard work and obstacles the team has been through this season, they had to see it come to an early end as they were barely defeated by the Panthers.
Now with the individual championships on the Feb. 18, Ginther and his starters are hoping that they can keep their seasons going into the state championships.
