On Jan. 14, the Runnin’ Pirates crushed the Lorena Leopards 61–47. The win improved La Vega to 1–1 in district play and 14–8 for the season. Leading the Pirates were Danzel Wilson’s 23 points and Earl Stinnett’s 13.

The Pirates returned to action Jan. 18 at Connally High School in a pivotal crosstown matchup but were outscored 10-2 in the final stanza and missing many open shots to lose to the Cadets, 47-43. Bigelow topped LV with 15 with Korey Moore scoring 11 and Stinnett nine with eight rebounds.

Last night, the Runnin’ Pirates sprinted past the China Spring Cougars 66-32, as Stinnett led the Pirates in scoring with 20 points, and DeChriston McKinney added eight points. Bigelow, Brandon Burgess and Moore also added seven apiece in the victory. The team improved to 2–2 in district play and 15–9 for the season.

According to the local newspaper's "Stats Plus," after Friday's game Stinnett ranks eighth in scoring at 17.2 per game, tenth in free-throw percentage (73.3), and twelfth in rebounding (8.1), while DeChriston McKinney is fifth in FTs at 76.5%.

The Modocs traveled to Robinson Friday Jan. 25 and beat the host Rockets, 62-51, after jumping out to a 38-21 halftime lead. Stinnett poured in 28, and Wilson added 14.

On Jan. 29, the Runnin' Pirates played host to 17-3A leader Gatesville for an opportunity at revenge for their loss in the district opener but squandered a 39-30 lead in the fourth quarter to lose, 52-47. Stinnett again led the Modoc effort with 18 points, followed by Bigelow with 13.

This Friday, Feb. 1, the team travels to Lorena for its next district matchup, starting at around 8 p.m.
