In the season opener at home vs. the Mart Lady Panthers, La Vega jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back in a 44-14 romp behind 13 points from Shawnequa Norwood and 12 from Delakia Wagoner, then played host to Marlin Nov. 14 and won, 32-21, with Brittany Perales scoring 11, Faith Gibson seven, Norwood six, and Stephani Brown and Wagoner four each.
Traveling to Hubbard Nov. 14, Norwood and Perales went wild, scoring 20 and 16 points respectively, in a 63-18 rout after a 27-8 halftime lead, and then the team used a balanced attack back at home vs. Texas Christian Academy Nov. 21, winning 29-21, with Perales topping the Pirates in scoring with eight.
Facing former district rival China Spring in their last pre-Thanksgiving matchup Nov. 25, LV pulled ahead of the Lady Cougars in the fourth quarter and won, 39-31 with three in double figures: Norwood with 14, Perales 12, and Gibson 10. Over the holiday weekend, the Lady Pirates went to Hubbard and pulled out a 41-39 thriller behind a spectacular performance by Norwood, who tallied 27 points.
At McGregor Dec. 2, the freshmen put the defensive clamps on the Lady Bulldogs, shutting them out in the final stanza while racking up 18 points themselves en route to a 41-19 cruise with Gibson scoring 14 and Perales 10.
La Vega played host to Cameron Dec. 9 and won easily, 39-23, with Perales scoring 13 and Norwood 12.
The team cancelled its games in the Corsicana Tournament Dec. 12-13 due to the state football championship and will travel to Ferris Tuesday Dec. 16 with the varsity.
