Did you know more than 26% of students fail to graduate on time in the U.S. every year and 7000 students drop out of high school each day? As an average high school student, college may or may not be something you spend a lot of your time looking into, but it should be.
College might not seem like a big deal at first, but those who do go have more advantages than those who have only a GED or high school education. Over the course of a single individual’s lifetime, one who is a college graduate will have had more opportunities and earned more income than one who is not. The grades you get in high school play a major part in the process of getting into a good college. Students who do maintain their grades or keep at least a 3.5 GPA are going to have more options when it comes to choosing what college to go to.
When looking into a college, whether it is two-year or four-year, you should always start with why you want to go and who you are personality-wise. What are your interests? What are your skills and weaknesses? You want to be able to study something you enjoy and are good at; something you can learn more about and be successful in. Size also matters. Do you want to go to a big or small college? If you like larger spaces or more variety a bigger college may be right for you. Or maybe you want to be in a smaller area in a smaller town. These are all things you should put into consideration. All teachers encourage each of their students to attend college. It’s never too early to set futuristic goals.
