Revisiting classic horrors: Resident Evil 3

If there was ever a video game to revisit and replay, it would undoubtedly have to be Capcom’s Resident Evil 3. RE3 has fixed-camera angles, non-HD/slightly pixelated graphics, and rough background environments that modern gamers would attribute to games from the 1990’s, but it continues the same legendary survival horror storyline that has given birth to the Hollywood movie series.
Continuing the style of the previous two Resident Evil games, RE3 maintains the diversity of game play with character availability, alterable plots that change according to the player’s decisions in critical split-second moments, and post-game perks. It also improves on weapon diversity, health stats, and organization.
Starting the game, the player assumes control of Jill Valentine, a member of special task force S.T.A.R.S., whom fans of the series will immediately remember from the first Resident Evil. In the midst of Raccoon City, the player has to navigate through the zombie-ridden streets while simultaneously avoiding the undead as they relentlessly pursue Jill until they either die for a second time, or feast on her corpse. Whether or not someone chooses to take advantage of the “easy mode” option, or take on the true survival challenge in “hard mode”, he/she will soon learn that they’ll need to ration health, ammo, and weigh the risks versus the benefits of various decisions in order to make it to the end. No one will be able to kill every zombie human and dog they encounter, not to mention the new experimental mutations that have escaped from the Umbrella Corporation’s genetic manipulation laboratories.
In addition to the thrill provided by this survivor horror, players will be happy to hear that RE3 contains post-completion content that will give them a reason to play the game more than once. Should a player defeat the game, he/she will have access to a mini-game known as “The Mercenaries”, where he/she will have the option of completing a timed course as any one of the three main mercenaries encountered in the original plot. Also, for every time a player beats the game, a new outfit is unlocked in the boutique that may be worn in lieu of Jill’s standard outfit.
