The Orpheum theater seats 2600 people. This month, sixteen of them were Providence students who had the opportunity to experience the world-renowned opera Les Miserables.
Throughout the year, the Drama Department organizes trips to see various plays, operas, and musicals. Many students consider this a great privilege.
“We have more opportunities to do these things. It’s great,” said Malia Hester ’15.
Providence gives students these opportunities to expose them to new experiences.
“It was my first opera, so that made it special,” said Meghan Onserio ’15.
It was also a first for Hester. “It was my first time at the Orpheum,” she said.
These trips aren’t organized just for people involved in the theater productions.
“No matter what interests people have, the chance to see a Broadway show both entertains and inspires,” says Mrs. Melissa Simmons, head of PA's Drama Department.
The play itself was enjoyed by many.
“I liked it," said Onserio.
Hester agreed. “It was really good,” she said.
Even though it was her fourth time seeing Les Miserables, Mrs. Simmons also enjoyed it.
“They got a new director and they changed some things," said Mrs. Simmons. "I’m a traditionalist, but I liked the reinvention.”
