Keeping Their Head Above Water
Cypress boy’s water polo faced off against Valencia on Thursday, September 29, and lost 7-1, with one goal by sophmore Louis Kim. “We’re a good team, we just can’t pull ourselves together,” says senior Eric Young, co-captain. Despite this loss, it looks like the Cypress Boy’s Water Polo is going to have a great season this year.
Cypress’ biggest challenge this season will be “most likely Yorba Linda, they're a strong team full of seniors,” says Eric. The Centurions plan to handle this challenge by “adapting to what the other team is doing,” says junior Connor Kunihiro, co-captain.
They are working hard towards their goal of winning league and getting to CIF. “Practice is long, hard, and full of little swimmers,” describes Eric Young. The boys have participated in two tournaments in preseason, winning two games and losing two games in each of them.
Coach Darren Sandvig predicts this year to be “one of the best water polo seasons we have had in a number of years and it’s just the tip of the iceberg, most of our top players are juniors and next year will be seniors. So we will do really well this year, and fantastic next year.”
Eric Young would also like all the young Lady Centurions to know that he is single. Come out and support Cypress Boys’ Water Polo this season!
