Macomb Mall - Matthew Perry
Advertising

About two months ago in Macomb Mall, the last bit of life passed away. Little Caesar’s has closed, and now we can finally say the mall is dead. With the economy down, and technology on the rise, is there any room or time for the mall? According to a wise homeless woman that struck me ever-so-randomly during my adventure around the mall, her reasoning as to why the malls are dying at such a rapid rate grew to a list of three mind-boggling points. She argued that kids nowadays need not the gathered clump of stores called a mall. With the invention of online stores, real-time shopping has dug its own grave. She recalled from her memory during her teenage years that the mall was a place not only to shop, but to hang around and enjoy yourself. But now, kids have no need to socialize, for they have cellular devices and internet. She also noted that the economy is down, and the availability of a job is very low.  It is very noticeable as to how the mall had become an unfathomable past-time, when people have more things to do than to trot around a mall with three good stores. Walking through the mall with friends, even we noticed the halls bare and empty and little stirred with life. As many have recalled, the malls have gone through this before. But in this new era of technology, will the mall be able to pull itself out of its grave? Some parents believe that this will be the end of the mall. With children being force-fed the “new ways of life” in America, our confidence in the mall and the future of it is growing thin.
