Breaking down on the dance floor, the mysterious dance crew entertains Fraser students during the homecoming pep assembly. While they are moving to the rhythm and sliding on the gym floor, FHS students can’t help but ask themselves, “Who are these guys?”

Pro Line FR is the name. The FR stands for “full respect.” This dance crew consists of Tia’Sweetz (Tia Sam, 10), Monsta Marvel (Sterling Brown, 12), Turbulence (De-Ante Williams, 12), and Fraser alumni Kid Enzi (Marshun Andrews.)

Tia’Sweetz, Monsta Marvel, and Turbulence spark curiosity wearing their specially designed masks. The group dances with and without them, but adding them is just more fun. Each year, their masks have a different design.

“They have an attachment to the masks,” Tia’Sweetz said, referring to her dance partners.

Many wonder about the symbol the dance crew makes with their fingers at the end of a performance. They make the letters “PL” with their fingers to signify their crew, Pro Line.

This hip hop dance crew performs at every given opportunity to show off their own original routines and dance moves including pep assemblies, talent shows, and even a fashion show in Detroit.

They also put on the Art of Talent concert once a year. Art of Talent is an annual concert that is put on here at Fraser High School. It takes place in the auditorium and usually occurs in May or June. Pro Line FR has participated in Art of Talent I and II, and they plan to participate again this year. Don’t miss it, especially since Art of Talent III is free this year!

Practicing on weekends and whenever the dance room is available after school, Pro Line FR has big dreams.

“Our plan is to stick together, but add people to the crew and go on ABDC (America’s Best Dance Crew),” Monsta Marvel said.

Turbulence plans to move to California after graduation. There, he will upgrade his performance and get involved in choreography. Monsta Marvel and Tia’Sweetz also plan to excel in dance as a career, much like their member Andrews.

“We just love dancing,” Tia’Sweetz said.

Turbulence and Tia’Sweetz have both danced their whole lives. Monsta Marvel has not danced as long, but he still has fallen in love with the art just the same.

“I heard that he [Turbulence] danced and I saw him in middle school. I came up to him in the lunch room and asked him to join,” Monsta Marvel said.

Dancing is something that touches their hearts, but they are still kids.

“Even though we all dance, we also have other talents. We all rap,” Turbulence said.

Turbulence is also on our varsity football team and varsity basketball team. He also makes his own R&B music, and Monsta Marvel enjoys skateboarding.

Pro Line is looking for even more dancers to join their family. To join the crew, find one of the members and show them what you can do.

“We are looking for two more dancers, but they have to be dedicated and skilled already,” Monsta Marvel said.

Along with Proline, there is another dance group known as Hip Hop Dance.  Many years ago Fraser had a hip hop dance team, but soon it faded away.  This year, a group of girls have taken it into consideration to start another Hip Hop Dance group.

“We wanted to start another hip hop dance group because me and all of my friends thought it would be a good idea to have something other than a regular dance team.  To not interfere with the regular Fraser Dancers, we practice in the rehearsal room across from the Auditorium,” Senior Beverley Bass said.

The Hip Hop Dancers started off small with only seven people, but soon grew to having about 18 people.  Their first dance practice was on October 1, 2011.  The policy with their dance group is that anyone can join, there aren’t any try outs.

Ms. Engardio is supervising the girls and has even helped them produce a contract and rules for them to follow.

These girls are very determined to make their group go far.  They’ve already started planning and with their captain, Sydnee Banks, everything is really organized.

“We’re ordering uniforms pretty soon so we can start performing.  We plan to dance at all of the pep assemblies and the Varsity Basketball games,” Senior Remington Jones said.

They’re first performance will be on December 7 at the Varsity Basketball Game.  So far the girls have arranged a small uniform to wear until their official uniforms come.  For the lipdub film, they wore “I Heart Fraser” t-shirts all in the same color.

Even though the girls have to pay for their uniforms themselves, they’re not going to let that stop them from practicing and performing.  With big plans for the future and consistent practices, the Hip Hop Dance group seems to have a bright future.
