Christmas is approaching and gifts are on everyone's mind. Whether it’s what you’re going to get or what you’re going to give, holiday gifts are always a hot topic.

We all see commercials and advertisements about the perfect holiday gifts. So what do people end up getting their family and friend? What gifts are under the Christmas tree for the important people in your life?

With the holidays quickly approaching, the perfect gift is what almost every one is looking for, especially for parents.

A select few have their shopping already completed, or are at least mostly done.

“I am glad I was able to get everybody something, this year,” said Elaine McConnell, a sophomore.

So what do you get for your parents? We asked students to find out.

“I get my father the same thing every year. A new wallet” said a source that is to remain anonymous*.

Another anonymous* source said “I am getting my mother some lotion and my father a CD.”

Most of the students put a great deal of thought and effort into gifts that they are picking out for their parents.

Parents seem to enjoy gifts that have thought put behind them.

“One year, I got my mother a figurine of mice decorating a Christmas tree (she collects mice). She seemed to appreciate it, and was really upset when the one mouse’s foot broke off,” said McConnell.

Some students decide to all chip in together to buy their gifts.

“My sisters and I got my mother a dishwasher the one year and she loved it,” said Harlee Lightner, a junior.

Many will say, the key to getting parents a Christmas gift that they’ll love is getting them something into which you put a lot of effort.

Look for something you know they can use or something that they really like. If money is an issue around the holidays, you could always make your parents something. Almost every one agreed that something hand made has more meaning than something store-bought.

“I cherish things people make for me, because it shows that they put time and effort into it,” said McConnell.

So when you’re Christmas shopping and you don’t know what to get for your mom and dad, just put a lot of thought into it.

Look for something that will show how much you care and appreciate them.
