A new website created by JK Rowling and sponsored by Sony, Pottermore has taken the world by storm. In summer it was first introduced to audiences as a simple videotape of Rowling speaking to the camera describing the function of Pottermore, and how a select few will be able to gain access before it opens to the grand public in October, 2011. In order to get early access, fans had to complete a certain task, and once this was complete, he/she would have to await an email finally granting access. Once allowed access into the world of Pottermore, users are able to participate in interactive reading experiences, including never-before-seen information straight from Rowling herself. Among countless of other adventures, new "witches" and "wizards" can visit Diagon Alley, learn spells, create potions, duel other users, and further pursue in detail every chapter of every book in the series. Not only that, but users can interact with each other; they can earn house points, friend each other, and send gifts virtually. It is the entire world of Harry Potter virtually encompassed on one website.

Although the hype was massive, the audience reaction to Pottermore's launch has not been entirely positive. Many have complained in extent about not receiving the acceptance email, or how the site is so overloaded with users it crashes. But the most resounding complaints are about the technical aspects of the website. The graphics and substance of the experience, however, are breathtaking. Speaking from this journalist's personal experience, Pottermore.com is easy to navigate, fun, and very dignified. And that is exactly what the internet, and Harry Potter fans, need.
