Autumn was born in Kealakekua, Hawaii and is single. Her hobbies are snowboarding, rollerblading, and playing tennis which explains why she would like New School to have more organized sports! Her favorite place in the whole wide world is Cape Cod because the beach is beautiful there in the summer. So far she has enjoyed her time at the New School where she has been teaching Algebra II. The last school she worked at was an all boys school in Boston. She wanted to teach at a co-ed school that focused on multiple intelligences and Autumn found what she was looking for when she responded to an ad in the newspaper that John Potter had placed asking for math teachers.

People who inspired Autumn to pursue her teaching career were her school teachers. Her favorite subject in school was science. Some good memories of being in high school include her friends going down to the beach with her, when they had no classes because the beach was right next to their school. Her high school years shaped Autumn into the person she is today because they taught her how to prioritize her life. Autumn’s advice for teenagers who want to be teachers is to notice what teaching methods you have learned from and remember the struggles you faced as a teenager.

Here are some of my observations of Autumn’s teaching methods:

Autumn is very direct. She knows exactly what she wants and tells students what she expects of them. She is a no-nonsense person. She knows how to command a room full of students and make them pay attention to her. She lets kids ask questions about the homework each day and tries to explain it to them. She gives students a review day before the test and has a quiz before that so they can learn what they are having trouble with and then she goes over it. Homework is graded fairly and she does give students a chance to bring their grade up. She is a fair person which makes her a fine teacher.
