Seniors,
the time has come for you to step up to the plate. You are running Leuzinger
High School and you have to set a good example for the seniors to come. During
senior year there are a number of things that you have to accomplish, and in order
to do so you have to stay focused.
The most important goal of all at this point is GRADUATION.
Many
people are already on the right track to graduate, but there are a few bumps in
the road for some students. Like many seniors, Courtney Crockett has amazingly
managed to not fail any of the classes that he has taken. “My motivation throughout high school
has been trying to fulfill my dream of playing college football,” says Crockett.
Many students including Crockett find it easier to go about school when they
have some sort of goal that they’re striving to accomplish. Therefore, we all
need to set short-term and long-term goals that provide the motivation for us
to succeed.
Although
many of us are on the right track, senior Orlando Pree found himself falling
short of the lifetime goal of graduating, having failed two of his required
classes. Although he felt discouraged about failing, he made up the grades by
attending Gardena Adult School. Orlando admits, “Fear of not graduating, once that
concept of failing got in my head I had to get back on the right track.”
There
are many ways seniors can make up failed classes. You can go to adult school,
take an E2020 class, attend Lloyde, or even take an independent studies course.
By simply choosing one of these paths you can graduate on time. Whatever you choose to do, by all
means decide with your best interest in mind.
“Many
seniors are planning to go to college after high school and in order for that
to happen you have to meet a certain amount of requirements, such as A-G requirements,
have taken the SAT or ACT, and you have to have a 3.0 gpa or above” says Mr. Perez,
the college advisor.
“If
you feel four year universities aren’t for you there’s always “Plan B” says
Perez. He adds, “There are Community Colleges, Vocational schools, and SCROC
(which isn’t free after high school)”. Plan B should be important to students
that aren’t considering a university because once you graduate things get
competitive and you need some kind of experience to make it in the real world. Mr.
Perez strongly encourages students to come and talk to him about any questions
or concerns that we have about our future.
