The breast cancer awareness bracelet that became a trendy fashion statement. -
Over
the years, people have developed a style of making bracelets to support
different causes. There have been drug free bracelets, Army strong bracelets
and so forth. The most recent trend that has been sweeping the nation is the “I
Love Boobies” bracelets. Although the bracelets were made to support the fight
against breast cancer, there is an argument about whether they're appropriate
for young people to wear.
As of this school year, the “I
Love Boobies” bracelets have been banned from Leuzinger High. As a result,
students aren't too fond of the decision. Rachel, an Olympian Freshman said, “I
think it's pointless that the bracelets are banned because they're supposed to
support breast cancer.”
Even though these trendy
bracelets are worn to support breast cancer patients they have become a trend for
young men to wear because of the double meaning of the statement printed on the
bracelets. When Dr. Smith was asked why the bracelets were banned, he responded
by saying, “It mostly has to do with the language. It's not like we don't
support the cause.”
To
some, the banning of the bracelets isn't such a big deal, but not to freshman
student Johnny. “I feel like the school is trying to take away our sense of
style.”
For those of you who are
disappointed about this situation, there are other ways that you can show your
support for this cause such as wearing anything pink (ribbons, socks, shoes,
headbands etc.) You may also volunteer at a medical facility of your choice.
