The Irish snapped a four-game winning streak for the 4A, No. 10 Rebels. Cathedral scored 10 unanswered points in the first quarter leading 10-0.
In the third quarter Roncalli cut the lead to 24-21 with senior Ryan Weber stealing the ball and finishing a free throw after being folded on a dunk. This would be the closest Roncalli would get to taking the lead over the Irish. The Rebels went on to lose the game 59-37. Senior Ryan Weber had 15 points and senior David Heckman had 8.
Unfortunately for Roncalli, they had a record-setting and record-tying performance in this game. For the first time in the school’s 43-year history, the Rebels failed to score a point in the first quarter. The eight points scored in the first half by Roncalli tied a school record set in 1980 for fewest points scored in a half.
The Rebels will travel to Seymour to play their next game on February 14.
