The boys swimming and diving team fell short in the sectional meet. Center Grove won the meet with a score of 478 followed by Franklin Community with a 387, Perry with a 262.5, and the Rebels with a 189.
In this meet there were 14 members of the team that had lifetime bests. Brandon Stuckey in the 50 back (relay lead off), Andrew Shuck in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 100 free (relay lead off), Gavin Friffiths in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Andy Bauer in the 200IM, Michael Millott in the 50 freestyler, Jack Niezer in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Ryan Kedra in the 50 free (relay lead off), Patrick Murphy in the 100 backstroke, Lucas LaRosa in the 100 backstroke, and Bobby McKay in the 100 backstroke.
Senior Jack Niezer's time in the 50 freestyle qualified him to be a state qualifier. The IHSAA Boy's State Prelims are Friday, February 24th at 6:00pm and the IU Natatorium.
Also, at the Sectional meet the Rebels head coach Ed Merkling was awarded the Coach of the Year award. Coach Merkling is in his 14th year as the Rebels head coach.
