Preview: Senior vs Staff Basketball Game Thursday, February 23, 2012 By Julie Traina and Paige Pretti - Kelley Kern Advertising Every year when spring break is just around the corner the student council puts on the senior vs. faculty basketball game. The idea of this game came about to raise money for the grotto and the prayer garden surrounding the statue of Pope John XXIII. Also, while raising money for the grotto there was a senior vs. faculty flag football game. Once all the money for the grotto was raised student council continued with the basketball game, but stopped the football game, and started donating the money from the basketball game to whatever lenten project the campus ministry committee finds for that year. This year the competition is going to be tough. The students claiming they will win. “Hopefully students will win because we are picking the teams early to give them time to practice,” said senior Abbey Swhear. On the opposing side Shellie Hartford said, “I feel like the faculty will once again be victorious. This in part to the amazing women staff members on the team, Mrs. Toner and Mrs. Owen can JUMP!!” Both teams seem very confident in their teams and plays that they are bringing to the game. The staff voluntarily sign up for their spots and Mrs. Hartford narrows it down if needed. This year the lineup for the women staff consists of Mrs. Bohn, Mrs. Hartford, Ms. Barna, Mrs. Toner, Mrs. Owen, and Coach Lynch. Coach Riedeman is listed as questionable for the game. The guys staff consists of Mr. Sahm, Mr. Verhiley, Mr. Costello, Mr. Dees, Mr. Weisenbach, Mr. Walters, Mr. Litz, Mr. Lauck, and Coach Hatfield. The student council picked ten girls and ten guys out of the senior class to participate. Some of the people were picked and others were chosen by a blind draw. The senior girls line up consists of Macey Speer, Morgan Sedgewick, Louise Hibner, Paige Pretti, Julie Traina, Pauline Dearing, Amy Hemmelgarn, Kelsey Kolisek, Mallory Lenahan, and Molly Zobel. The senior boys line up consists of Clinton Corbin, Will Schott, Tyler Crouch, Jimmy Henke, Kevin Schoettle, Nick Baker, Eamon Roberts, Chris Barrer, Jordan Donica, and Mitchell Scott.  The senior girls team has six player that played freshman basketball at Roncalli. Their goal is to push it and run as much as possible since the staff girl's team has six players with the seventh ,Coach Riedeman, being questionable right now.
