Despite a series of heart-breaking losses, the girls’ volleyball team has maintained high hopes for this season.

The team suffered its fifth loss of the season in a 0-3 blowout by Poolesville September 27. Although the team had a numerous amount of good points, errors got the best of them.

Six days after celebrating their first win of the season, the team failed to continue their success on the court losing 0-3 to Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. Sloppy play and disastrous mistakes got the better of them.

The evening of September 19 was a happy one for the members of the QO girls’ volleyball team after crushing Blair 3-1. Everyone stepped up their game and played to their full potential.

After a “rough introductory period” Coach Karen Jones has made a substitution in her expectations for this season saying that “we’re more concerned of playing to our potential… I’m not going to determine my expectations on our win-loss record.”

With senior team captains Laura Marshall and Jessica Romero, and freshman phenoms Kristina Garcia and Tia Mancuso, it’s hard to believe this team is struggling. However, the players have blamed this recent downfall to be the work of what they all refer to as “The Funk”, a severe loss of motivation, inconsistency, and effort. Coach Jones believes that “inexperience leads to that kind of inconsistency.”

If this is the only flaw this team possesses, then the future looks bright for them. Once these young stars reach their full potential, and climb out of the inexperience stage, success will easily replace inconsistency.
