Ahh, February 14. Some love this day out of the year while others love to hate it.
Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that is completely focused on those who are “in love”. This holiday is also lacking its counterpart. For every Christmas there is a Hanukkah and for every Passover there is an Easter. But for every Valentine’s Day there is...well, nothing. There’s absolutely no holiday to celebrate single-dom or “the single folk.”
The logic behind Valentine’s Day is if you have a significant other, then you love the holiday. On the other hand, if you don’t have someone to share it with, then you typically end up loathing the holiday.
I’m not saying that single people can’t enjoy being single, but this one holiday makes you want to have someone special.
And I’m not bitter about the holiday, oh no. I’ve just come to the conclusion and accepted the fact that maybe Valentine’s Day just isn’t for me.
Last year, the one time cupid wasn’t going to fail me, Mother Nature took over and intervened. I was going to go on a cute date with someone special (at the time, that is), when the sky all of a sudden clouded up and dropped a foot of ice. This left me homebound and my Valentine’s Day date ruined.
So much for the perfect Valentine’s Day.
So, however you spend the holiday this year, whether it be a romantic candle-lit dinner for two, or rocking out at the QOHS Battle Of the Bands, have fun and enjoy the people you spend it with. Maybe Valentine’s Day won’t be so bad this year?
