On Thursday, February 2, 2012, Dr. William Logan, principal of Hillside New Tech High announced to students and staff that he would also be presiding over Hillside High School for the remainder of the year.

Desmond Caldwell will serve as the interim-principal.

During an informal gathering on Friday, February 3, 2012, Dr. Logan spoke words of encouragement, listing his expectations for students to achieve in his absence, prefacing changes that may occur, and advising that New Tech welcome neighboring students as if they were already apart of the New Tech family.

Logan delivered a passionate speech reassuring students that his additional title wouldn’t change normality's New Techs student body has grown accustomed to. “So those of you on twitter, I appreciate the comments but leave it alone,” Dr. Logan stated sternly reminding students “it’s not them versus us, we are all in this building together.” Aware of how some students present themselves to the rest of the public, specifying ones status as a Hillside New Tech student opposed to referring to their title as a Hillside student.
