Mr. Trujillo, Central's new Principal

This summer, Fred Trujillo was named new principal of Central High School.

Moving here from Chama, New Mexico, Trujillo said he is very proud becoming the new principal of Central and believes it is the best school in Pueblo.

Roe Anne Collette, the assistant principal, believes Trujillo will do a great job being the new principal.

“He is very sincere in wanting to do a good job and to improve Central High School,” said Collette.

Trujillo seems to definitely have an interest in getting to know the students and staff.  He has said he hopes to gain that mutual trust between himself, the staff, and the students.

Trujillo has made an effort to do so by spending time in the classrooms throughout each day and walking through the hallways during both lunches.

Senior Rikki Moore has noticed Trujillo’s involvement with the students.

“His involvement with the students is really good.  He is really taking charge in getting involved and getting to know the students,” she said.

According to Collette, Trujillo has made the transition of becoming new principal fairly easy on the staff.

“He is a team player,” said Collette.  “He cares about our students and staff.”

When receiving the news of getting a new principal from out of state, many students were worried that some of the traditions would be put to an end.

Trujillo, though moving here from New Mexico, did have past knowledge of Central and its traditions. Being a graduate of the 1993 class at CSU Pueblo, he had friends who were Central High graduates; two being Dave Craddock, head football coach for the Wildcats, and Dean Gray, head track and field coach.  He also has a sister- in- law who is a graduate of Central.

Trujillo said he thinks the tradition of CHS is great and plans to build on it.

“I hope to create our own legacy to build on the tradition,” he said.

Although Trujillo hasn’t been here very long, he already calls Central his home and has become a part of the Wildcat family.
