After only one practice in the start of the 2008-2009 school year, the Central High School Knowledge Bowl team is looking good and ready to start  competition.

Knowledge Bowl is an “academic competition where students compete against each other in all subjects” said teacher Perry Gridley. He compares and describes the activity to a fun game of jeopardy.

Knowledge Bowl quizzes on subjects such as math, science, history, English, and much more, said Gridley.

The teams’ teacher sponsors for this year are math teacher Gridley and English teacher Kathleen Kochevar.  Both teachers are new to knowledge bowl and are taking over gladly where Sally Keller left off.

Along with new sponsors is a fairly new team.  A veteran to the team, Senior Sarah Mutz, said that the team is young and about half of the team are joining in now for their first year.

“Knowledge bowl is a place for everyone wanting to learn something new, meet new people, and have fun. Other students should join,” said Mutz.

In the eyes of the students, each of them has their own reasoning behind their enjoyment on the team.  Sarah Mutz said it is fun and exciting to be around the other team members and the great learning experience that it provides you with.

Another member of the team, Chase Cope enjoys going to the competitions that knowledge bowl allows you to compete in.

One team goal for knowledge bowl this year is to qualify for state as they did last year.  Another is “to have a very strong A team and develop a C team” says Mutz.

The knowledge bowl team is currently looking for more members to join. Posters have been hung asking for some interested students.

“Most people know more than they think.” You don’t have to be a genius to be a part of knowledge bowl, said Mutz.  So why not come and give it a try.

To get to know more about the team or need any questions answered, please contact Gridley or Kochevar to get any information needed.

In order to join the team, practices are Wednesday after school until 5:30 and also on Friday until 3:30.
