Central High School students helped keep the tradition going at the 12th annual of Tom and Louie’s Cupboard. 486 Thanksgiving baskets were delivered citywide.

Tom Scheets and Louie Stovik were priests who gave food to the needy for the holidays.

Every school in Pueblo has a food drive and turkeys are donated. Students who are in Student Council and Key Club deliver bags city wide and go back the next day and pick up the bags; the bags usually have non-perishable items in them.

The next weekend Student Council and Key Club members from all schools meet at the State Fair grounds and sort them into baskets.

The next weekend each student gets a map and they distribute.

According to Brian Domina, the Student Council sponsor, it was good. “Shaky at the beginning, organization was tough, but at the end they started to get the picture,” he said.

At first nobody from Central was involved and Carrie Kuhrt came of the idea.

Kuhrt, involved in Student Council, thought it was awesome. “The feeling you got after delivering the baskets was just all so worth it, said Kuhrt.

Tonya Odell, the Key Club sponsor said “I was really proud of the student body because Key Club and Student Council joined efforts to represent Central proudly.”

Michelle Velasquez who has been involved for the last two years with Boys and Girls Club, thought it would be better to get more people. “The families were all really happy and thankful they were going to have a Thanksgiving dinner for their family,” she said.

The students had a successful year with delivering 486 baskets to families, next year they hope to increase the number.
