Students are hard at work just in case an unexpected evaluation arises.

Walk through evaluations.. What are they for?

Everyone wonders why our administrators, Principal Mr. Trujillo, Vice Principal Mrs. Collette, and Activities Director Mr. Caricato come in our classes and watch our teachers teach, but why?

The answer is “Walk through evaluations” they are an “informal observation of teacher performance” said Collette. She went on to explain “ It is basically body evidence of an effective teacher,” Said Collette.

When evaluating our teachers, our administrators look for things like “student engagement in learning, that objectives are posted and reviewed during the class period, that there is bell-to-bell teaching and learning, variety of activities different teaching and learning methods, and that each and every student is being pushed to the next level,” stated Collette.

Principal Mr. Trujillo told each and every teacher and factuality member that walk through evaluations are expected everyday, “So I expect them everyday,” said Gray.

If evaluations are supposed to be happen everyday how often are they supposed to happen?

Well according to Mrs. Collette she says “We are supposed to spend at least five minuets in five classes every day,” said Collette.

So how do students feel about Walk through evaluations, are they a good thing, or can they be a distraction to our learning?

“It just depends on our teacher, Because in my own personal opinion it doesn’t bother me in anyway,” said junior Leah Casados.

“Yes, some teachers do get nervous, and I can understand why,” said Casados.

I’m sure some of us can say that some of our teachers get a little nervous when our administrators come to the classroom door with the evaluation clipboard.

“No, I don’t get nervous, at least I try not to, but it doesn’t  really bother me, but at times it may come off like that but its not intentional,” said Gray.

“Evaluations are a good thing, it keeps teachers teaching  from bell-to-bell and also keeps them focused,” said Gray.

But something that may be surprising is that every staff member gets evaluated, including secretaries, behavior coaches, custodians, coaches, and even the lunch ladies. No one is left out.

Every staff member receives “glows” and “grows” after being evaluated.

Glows are something that the evaluator seen that was impressing and a good thing.

Grows are something that the evaluator suggests something that the teacher can work on.
