These days, technology is everything and it has come to play a very important role in everyday tasks.
This year new principal, Fred Trujillo, understands that the teachers need to be up-to-date in order to make things easier and more accessible for them.
Trujillo said, “When I got to Central I noticed that we had unused money in our budget and if you don’t use it, you can lose it. I thought a laptop was the best tool for the teachers because they could use it at home and at school.”
Right now 31 of the teachers have a laptop. The core areas English, Math, and Science are the departments that get to take advantage of them.
The other departments, PE and Foreign Languages have been given one laptop for the whole department for those teachers to get familiar with.
Trujillo’s goal is to eventually get all the teachers one. English Department Chair Peggy Pechek said, “I love having a laptop! Our principal is really proactive on ways to do better for our school.”
They help with the teacher’s assessments, access different sites from outside of school and get programs such as Galileo, which creates lesson plans.
Some students weren’t aware that their teachers had these laptops but others that have teachers that incorporate them into their teaching have noticed.
“I noticed the laptops because some of my teachers use it with their Multi-Media Projector which definitely helps the involvement in the classrooms,” said senior Sarah Mutz. “In classes like Mr. Benedetto’s, its easier to visualize, memorize, and learn.”
The staff is very hopeful that it will have more of an effect on the teaching and learning process in the future, as they get familiar with what is available.
Trujillo said, “Eventually they will be able to access CSAP data and everything can be broken down for each student. Their grades, attendance, and other information on the student will be available.”
Trujillo has made a difference in Central High School great new ideas and improvements. The laptops are definitely helping out the staff now and will only get better in the future.
