Girls gymnastics, still one of the most successful teams here at Central High School.
This year the girls gymnastics team took second overall in the state tournament that took place in Thornton on November 1.
Marla Lanham, gymnastics coach and teacher at Central stated, “ It was awesome, the girls performed to the best of their abilities.”
This year there were girls from all around town that competed in the state tournament representing our school on our gymnastics co-op team.
There were girls from Pueblo West, South, Rye and County.
Gymnastics has always been one of the most successful teams to be representing our school.
This year’s success is said to help out and push other sports at our school to be successful as well.
“This tends to help other athletes, it helps them make an extra effort in other sports, stated Central High School Athletic Director Jim Caricato.”
For the first time since Central has had the team there is a student, Tasia Turner that attends Central High School.
“This made it possible for the school to by in, we have someone to cheer about, stated Caricato.”
“This season started off rough, we really had to bring it back together, stated Lanham.”
Last year they were even closer to becoming State Champions but due to an unfortunate circumstance they were not able to, but were still able to be awarded runner-up at the 2007 State Tournament.
“ It was hard to come back from last year, stated Lanham.” “ But we brought it back together.”
Before getting ready to go to state the team was able to enjoy some team bonding activities.
“Lanham went on to say, Because it was around Halloween the girls were able to carve pumpkins together. We wanted them to do something that was totally different from gymnastics.”
