When con artist Harold Hill comes to River City his purpose is to trick the people out of their money by telling them that he wants to give music lessons (but as soon as the instruments come in, he plans to bail town). Meeting Marian, the town librarian and piano teacher, changes everything. Hill stays in River City longer than he expected. The mix of love and music will be on stage this weekend as the BUHS Theatre Department proudly presents “The Music Man.”

“I like the comradeship developed by the cast,” said junior Dallas Tolbert. “We’re working with songs so its more lively and upbeat.”

Tolbert is in the barbershop quartet and enjoys the challenge of his first BUHS musical.

“I love being the bass in the barber shop quartet,” he said. “I love hitting the low notes.”

“Musicals are always fun,” added junior Francisco Honne. “I think it’s because the people I work with. Everyone brings something special to their character.”

The main role of Hill will be played by senior Ryan Owens.

“I like it because I get to be a part of something bigger,” Owens said. “I want to show people that theatre is art -- it’s not just some geeky weird thing. I find theatre more entertaining than a TV because I find that there’s more action and you feel connected to the people acting. Joining theater I was expecting to help people gain awareness. I hope they join theater to help keep it successful.

“I think this play will be a great ending to my senior year it’s going to end with a bang,” Owens said.
