HAPPY HUNGER GAMES! The most riveting movie of the year is finally out. Based on the book written by Suzanne Collins, it begins with a poor girl named Katniss. Her only goal before the games is to keep her family alive. As a punishment for past uprisings in the districts, the capitol of Panem created The Hunger Games. Each year two representatives are chosen from each of the twelve districts, one male, one female, to compete. 

It’s “reaping day” in district twelve and the colorful Effie Trinket stands in front of the crowd and announces the first tribute’s name. As Prim, Katniss’ little sister, is chosen from the reaping bowl, Katniss volunteers as a tribute in her sister’s place without any thought. Along with Katniss, Peeta Mellmark is chosen as the male tribute. 

The best part of the movie was the interview. The loud introduction music, the outfits, even the host Cesar Flickerman were all spot on. 

The barbaric games puts the 24 participants in an arena where they fight to the death with the last one standing as the winner. Katniss and Peeta are up against 22 other participants and most have trained all their lives. 

While in the games, Peeta and Katniss’ relationship grows exponentially. The two save each other’s lives continuously and grow closer. 

The movie flawlessly displays the emotions of the tributes. The sadness Katniss has at the death an ally, Peeta’s love for Katniss, the terror in Katniss’ eyes when she sees Peeta in pain - it’s all portrayed with the right tone. 

If you have read the book, the movie is a must see. Like most movies some things have been cut from it, but overall it was fantastic.
