In senior Rachel Tecca’s last game as a Hoban Knight, she was the leading scorer with 17 points. This is fitting for someone who is the all-time leading scorer in girls basketball history at Hoban.

Although her playing days at Hoban are over, Tecca is going to continue her basketball and academic careers at the University of Akron. Tecca calls the end of her days at Hoban “bittersweet” because she is excited to play at the next level, yet sad to leave.

“It has always been my dream to play at the next level,” she said. “But it’s sad to leave my team and the Hoban tradition behind.”

Tecca also said how the past four years have been “terrific,” and that “I loved every minute of it.”

The four years that Tecca talked about were some very good teams. In her freshman year, 2006, the Knights made it to the district semifinal game. In 2007 Tecca helped lead the Knights along with Tenesia Benson to the Ontario Regional Championship game, just one game short of making it to the state tournament. Last year, Tecca almost led the Knights back to the regional finals, but they were stopped short in the regional semifinals. Even with the loss to Lima Bath, the Knights still finished ranked eighth in the final AP poll. This year, Walsh stopped Tecca and the Knights from making it to the regional tournament again.

She credited the coaching staff in helping her out in the past four years.

“I owe Coach Miller and the coaching staff my deepest appreciation for everything they helped me accomplish,” she said.

Next year while at Akron, the girls basketball team will be playing without Tecca for the first time in four years. But while she’s gone she is “confident my teammates will continue
the Hoban Tradition.”
