A bike with two riders slowly makes it way up a hill. A beautiful church is almost in view; one pretends to tire, trying to get them to stop by the church. The other refuses and tries to urge him on but he insists. Her anger rises and soon they are making their way home, leaving the church behind. The man sighs in frustration, and grabs his pocket where the ring is. If only they had stopped.
Geometry and algebra teacher Ms. Cathy Terence got engaged last weekend while waiting at the drive-through of a bank. The reason for such an unusual place was the outcome of a failed attempt earlier that day. Ms. Terence’s fiance asked to go on a bike ride that happened to pass by a church on a hill. As they made their way up, he tried to get them to take a break in front of it so that he could propose. Since they usually never went on bike rides, Ms. Terence was persistent that they continue. After several tries to get them to stop, he finally gave up and agreed to head home.
Later that day, on the way to a coffee shop, they decided to stop by a bank. While they were in line at the drive-through, he asked her to get his wallet out of his jacket pocket. When she reached over to get it, she pulled out a box with a ring inside and he asked her to marry her.
“It surprised me that it happened at the bank so it took me a minute to finally say yes.”
Her future husband had to explain to her that he had planned on proposing to her when they were biking, but when she had yelled at him to continue he got too nervous and decided to wait. He wanted to propose before a party they were going to that night, and because he was running out of time, he resolved to do it at the bank.
“I thought he had been planning to propose to me at the party that night, so it was definitely a surprise when he did it before then.”
That night at the party, several people were asking when he would propose, so Ms. Terence held up her hand to show the ring and announced that it had already happened. After that, she told them the entire story of her fiance's disastrous attempt to ask her the "big question".
