After much digging, here is what is actually going on with the new zodiac sign, Ophiuchus. Back in January, Parke Kunkle, a Minneapolis astronomy instructor, announced that the Earth’s “wobble” has now changed the zodiac signs. The wobble is caused by the Moon’s pull on the Earth, which pulls the signs off by one tenth across the sky. One-tenth is equivalent to about one month. Because of this pull, which is called precession, the position of each zodiac’s constellation to the sun may not be the same. So here are the zodiac signs and their corresponding dates:
* Capricorn: January 20 - February 16
* Aquarius: February 16 - March 11
* Pisces: March 11 - April 18
* Aries: April 18 - May 13
* Taurus: May 13 - June 21
* Gemini: June 21 - July 20
* Cancer: July 20 - August 10
* Leo: August 10 - September 16
* Virgo: September 16 - October 30
* Libra: October 30 - November 23
* Scorpio: November 23 - November 29
* Ophiuchus: November 29 - December 17
* Sagittarius: December 17 - January 20
Now take everything you just read, and forget about it. It just so happens to be that the announcement of Ophiuchus was made without first understanding the difference between Sidereal and Tropical astrology. The difference is this: The Eastern world is considered to be Asia and Eastern Europe. They use the Sidereal astrology. The Western world is everywhere else, and they use Tropical. Because Tropical uses the seasons instead of using the constellations, Ophiuchus plays no role here. What Kunkle was talking about applied to the Sidereal astrology. So here is what the signs have been, and always will be:
* Aries: March 21 - April 19
* Taurus: April 20 - May 20
* Gemini: May 21 - June 20
* Cancer: June 21 - July 22
* Leo: July 23 - August 22
* Virgo: August 23 - September 22
* Libra: September 23 - October 22
* Scorpio: October 23 - November 21
* Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21
* Capricorn: December 22 - January 19
* Aquarius: January 20 - February 18
* Pisces: February 19 - March 20
If you were excited about being someone else, I’m very sorry to burst your bubble. However, for some people, they’re perfectly content to stay who they know they are. For personality traits and other things having to do with the zodiac, visit astrology.com.
