May 31, 2008 is the finish line for the class of 2008, which raises the question: what comes next? Students have many options about where to go or what to do in the coming years, and many are making those decisions carefully.
“I’m going to the College of Wooster next year to study Archaeology. College is the path to success,” said senior Ana Wallace.
The more conventional route for seniors is to attend college, whether it be a technical college or a four year university. Popular college choices this year include: The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, Ohio Northern University, Kent State University, Columbus State Community College and Ashland University. Most seniors interviewed plan on staying in state for college, citing the increase in tuition rates for out of state students.
Tyler Taynor plans on attending Ohio Dominican University and majoring in Accounting, while Brandon Smith plans on attending ITT Tech to study Architecture. Ben Hayes will be attending The Ohio State University, and Cody Dalga will be going to Ohio Northern University to study Civil Engineering. Eric Remlinger will be attending Muskingum to study Education.
Another popular choice for students this year is enlisting in the military. With the chance for a free college education, this option is appealing to many. Marc Pruett is part of the National Guard, and says it is a great opportunity to serve his country along with great benefits.
For some students, the end of the May will also mean the end of their education all together. Instead of pursuing a further education, these students will instead go directly into the workforce. With the rising prices of tuition, this route is becoming more and more appealing to some students.
As seniors begin the countdown to graduation, excitement is beginning to form. Many seniors are looking forward to the future, and ready to leave Hayes.
Dalga is most excited about being around new people, and the whole experience in general. He is also looking forward to a quality education at Ohio Northern.
“I’m most excited about meeting new friends and experiencing new places,” said Hayes.
Remember seniors: just because you are accepted at a college does not mean you can blow off fourth term. Although it may seem like a good idea to slack off senior year, it could have a serious effect on your future plans. Some colleges will revoke acceptance due to poor academic performance, so keep up your grades and attendance.
After four years of waiting, the senior class is almost ready to move on and leave Hayes. Although the senior class is heading in many different directions, we can be sure to expect great things from the seniors in the future.
