Every time someone utters the word Warcraft, a nerdy image comes to mind. Why is that? What makes this game so “nerdy” per say? It could be the endless hours many people spend on the computer devoting to the game, or maybe the fact that there are leagues and it gets completely serious. Maybe. Oh, maybe it could be the fact that it is extremely popular, and one of the highest rated PC games of all time. (battle.net)
The definition of a nerd is: “A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.” (thefreedictionary.com)
“Yeah it is pretty nerdy to play Warcraft, I know,” said Nick Pagan, senior at Hayes. “But if you know the game, it actually gets pretty fun ”
A game in Warcraft could last anywhere from 15 minutes to hours on end. The rules are a bit confusing. There is a new Hero every race, meaning they have spells that are more powerful, and magical abilities to continue the game on. There is also many new units added each game giving the option of using new tactics and strategies. Neutral heroes, neutral buildings, and player-built shops are also included in the game. (blizzard.com/us/warx3)
This game is extremely popular around the world and it is made into many different languages such as English, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and more. Would anyone even think that a game that does not seem so popular in Delaware, Ohio would be so known around the entire world.
Some people who play Warcraft make money from playing well. Thirty-thousand dollars can be made in one year, from just playing the game itself. (Not really enough to live on, but some pocket change to fall back on. ?)
“I have made money in the past and I just stopped playing for awhile, but I think I am going to start playing for money again and get that bank.” said Pagan.
Attention rookies: do not fall into the trap of the professionals. The game is all about having heroes (battle.net). Then when a hero is gained, it needs to be leveled up. Always attack “creeps” that are of the same power and do not aim too high. Also, do not let the allies die for no reason, they need to be saved. Do not build too many buildings, and last but not least; know the map.
If you are one of those Warcraft playing fools, get out there and get into tournaments. There are battling tournaments, and audio commentary tournaments as well. Any player can join the tournament, it does not matter what level the player is or how long they have been playing. Signing up for a tournament is also easy to do, just as easy as clicking the play button on the game. (battle.net)
Success in the game could define how much money made, so the conclusion would be to do just that: be successful.
According to Sid Blair, junior at Hayes says, “Get money.”
