Escondido High School
head custodian Ariel Alatorre has been given the highest honor for an
Escondido Union High School District employee. He won the District
Employee of the Year award with his relentless work ethic. He is now
getting some recognition for all of the hard work he puts in on and
off the clock. He didn't see it coming though.
Head custodian Ariel
Alatorre said, “I was
surprised. I didn't think I was going to win.”
He's
honored to receive the award and is a very humble winner. He wants
to let everyone know it's not just him, his team does all the work
together.
Alatorre
said, “I would say we all deserve it, nine custodians and one
groundskeeper. All of us put together are a team, we should all win
it.”
Nominated
by Escondido High School's Marla Martin, staff agree he is a great
candidate for the award since he does so much for them.
Escondido
High staff Marla
Martin
said, “I nominated him because his radio is constantly going and he
will make sure he finishes with you before going. Also we get food
from trucks on palettes that are to heavy for us and Ariel always
comes and helps us put everything away.”
He also has only nice
things to say about his co workers at the school. There is a good
relation between him and the staff at EHS. He does what they need
and they are all nice to him.
AVID teacher Erika
McCoy said, “He does a lot
for this campus. He keeps the classrooms working and clean. It's a
shame the way some students at this school take him and the rest of
the custodians for granted.”
Only
the students have less respect for him and he feels a little
disrespected.
He
said, “I just ask them to pick trash up. They don't listen because
they are around their friends. It wouldn't be that way if they were
around their parents. It's disrespectful.”
He
does more than most students think he does. He isn't here to pick up
the trash they leave on the ground or clean the tagging they write on
the walls. He is here to make sure everything is working and keep it
that way in all the classrooms.
