Many people think that music in school can be very helpful to a student's education.
In recent studies conducted by the National Association for Music Education, it has been shown that students who participate in music programs have improved study skills and better social behavior. In addition to that, the study also stated that learning music is helpful to a student's memorization skills. It showed that students involved with music programs could learn and understand material faster than other students.
Freshman Kit Haymond said, “I wouldn't want to live in a world without music. It's the one thing I can rely on to make me feel better.”
In addition to improving study habits, music has been said to relieve stress and help students relax.
“Music is a release,” Sophomore Devon Robinson said. “It's a way of getting out of reality.”
Another thing the study shows, contrary to what one might hear by most sources, is that listening to quiet background music while doing homework can help students stay focused on their material.
“I think everyone should learn about music,” said Sophomore Tyler Baldwin.
