Marching Band needs to work Embed This Article
Marching band takes more than staying in line and playing the right notes.

This past year the Music Department at Waldron Jr.-Sr. High School had to cut marching band leaving many students wondering why that decision was made. Several students were disappointed, and others just did not care while some were curious as to why it was cut.

“The biggest thing I'm tying to do is get students to take interest. We've got to change our attitudes,” stated Mr. Trester the band director at Waldron.

It is hard for students to take interest, and they do not have a good attitude about marching, according to Trester. Marching Band does take time and effort behind it. The students have to learn the music and learn how to march in time. If students are not willing to work and take time, then it is very difficult to do.

“We are so distracted, and we do unnecessary things.[when students don't take interest] stated Junior Emily Robertson.

Many students have a hard time focusing and taking the time to learn and then march in parades. Students think just because they sign up for band, they will just have to do it during school.

“There are too many mandatory practices,” stated Sophomore Katelynn Armstrong.

According to Trester, students just are not willing to take time out of their schedule to practice and to work at marching in parades “because they we're forced to do it, but it will all be voluntary when it starts back up.”
