Waldron High School's basketball team has a new game plan coming into the season with a new coach.
Varsity players looked forward to finishing high school with their previous coach Mr. Jason Gorrell. Now his brother the Athletic Director Mr. Jeff Gorrell has taken the job. Practice is longer and the conditioning is harder.
Senior Guard Nathan Hensley said, “He makes us stronger because of the drills, and he explains everything. He's a good teacher.”
The players will not get much of a break other than Christmas and Thanksgiving. Coach Gorrell has made a new addition to practice called “classroom.” The players sit in a classroom and discuss practice and new plays.
Principal Mr. Fehribach said, “I think he [AD Gorrell] is doing a good job. I feel comfortable with it. It's a smooth transition.”
The players are moving forward with the season. Gorrell has played and coached basketball, and he has the necessary experience to provide the players with a good season. The rest is up to the team depending on how well they execute the plays and concentrate on defense as well.
When asked how the season would go, Hensley said, “No comment, I'm very superstitious.”
