The cell phone policy at our school may seem unfair, but almost every school in Indiana has basically the same policy.

At Waldron, the policy is that the cell phones must stay turned off and in the student's locker. If one gets using a cell phone without permission, the cell phone will be taken and the student can get detention or even suspension.

Some say that the policy is unfair and that it needs to be changed.

Sophomore Jessica Doddridge said, “I think we should have them in class but have respect for the teachers.”

According to some, cell phones would be appropriate to have in the classroom if a student doesn't have it out while the teacher is teaching. Other students think if we were allowed to use them only during the passing period, it wouldn't disturb any teachers, and in that way students could call home if they forgot any homework or needed something dropped off.

Senior Heather Sheets said, “I think they need to let us use cell phones during passing periods.”

Some students think it is unfair that teachers can use a cell phone in the middle of class, but students can't even carry phones around.

“The policy would also be better if the teachers weren't allowed to use their cell phones in the middle of a class,” said Sheets.
