Senior guard Evan Wallace tries to in-bound the ball for the Mohawks.
At New Palestine, the Waldron Mohawks fell to the Dragons in their season opener.

The Mohawks played a good game, but they couldn't stick with the Dragons down the stretch. For the first game of the season, though, Coach Gorrell thought the team played well.

“There are some things we have to work on, but I was pleased with the effort,” said Gorrell.

The Mohawks were down in the first quarter but came back and outscored the Dragons 14-4 in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime. During the third quarter, the lead went back and forth between the two teams. But in the fourth quarter, the Dragons took the lead halfway through and never looked back. There were some points in the game that the Mohawks just couldn't connect on.

“We were missing some close range shots, and defending their 6' 7” post player was tough,” said Gorrell.

The Mohawk players felt they did a decent job during the game, just not one good enough to win.

“Overall, I felt we did good. We did a good job defensively, and we had a lot of intensity,” said Junior Guard Clayton McClure.
