Until Oct. 3, the Cleveland cross country team had managed to hold its own at its league meets so far this season, but it had never truly dominated.
     That changed with the home meet at Westmoreland, where Cleveland was victorious in all four races. Varsity, junior varsity, boys, girls, Cleveland won it all. The competition didn’t go easy on them though. It took some strong performances from individual runners as well as the team.
     Zach Armstrong continued his breakthrough season. He came in first place in the junior varsity boys race with a season-best 18 minutes, 41 seconds. His 5,000 meter personal record has now dropped one minute and 21 seconds from last year’s best of 20:02. Another racer who showed a flash of brilliance was junior varsity girl Bella Forest. She came in first place in her race, and because she is a freshman, she has three years left to improve on her times.     Peter Kurtz, another junior varsity boy, had an excellent race. He finished third. What did he consider responsible for his performance? “Hard work and practice,” he replied.
     At their home meet at Westmoreland Park on Oct. 3, the whole Cleveland Warriors team worked hard. If they keep doing that, they are sure to have a great rest of the season. The next meet is Oct. 6 at Grant.
