NICK VAN MARTER:

Senior Nick Van Marter, a three year varsity player, earned the Royal C from his coach Scott Killen after another solid year on the soccer pitch. The captain was named first team all-league for the Warriors, who made it to the quarterfinals in state this year. Though the team had a tough preseason, the rest of the year was amazing as the team started to play better, Van Marter said.  Nick Van Marter also won first team, all league.
            The highlight of the season was winning the league by beating the Franklin Quakers, our rivals.
            With a supportive coach, Scott Killen, Van Marter felt the team really succeeded. "He (Scott) was really into team development. He wasn't selfish, which helped us play well and win, and enjoy those wins," said Van Marter.
            Winning the Royal C meant that he was not just a big part of the soccer program, but the school as well, he said. While his plan after high school isn't definite yet, his future in soccer is. "I want to play wherever I go!" he said.

MICHAELA MINTURN:

            Junior captain Michaela Minturn, a three year varsity player, won the Royal C for volleyball. Her sister, Marissa Minturn, had won this award for the previous two years and this award meant a lot to her because their names will be on the plaque together. Minturn also won first team all-league.

            Minturn described her team as devoted, which led to their successful season.

“They constantly make me want to do my best, and this season wouldn’t be the same without any of them,” said Minturn. She also described Coach Camille Adana as a huge motivator.

            The highlight of her season was beating Grant. It was the first game of the season and one of their best games they played together. Minturn will be continuing to play volleyball next year.

Carlee Osborn:

            Royal C winner Carlee Osborn is a three year varsity girls soccer player, the captain her senior year. As a goalie, Osborn's highlight of the season was her fingertip save to shut out Franklin. With a supportive team Osborn learned how passionate she could be and how to have fun at the same time.
            Winning the Royal C was an honor. "It's really cool everyone looked up to me that way, almost like a role model." Osborn also won PIL honorable mention. The team lost in the second round of state.
            Coach Julia Blattner was a role model, keeping Osborn working hard. Blattner supported her on and off the field, leaving Osborn with someone to always count on. "I can't imagine any other coach for my senior year," said Osborn. 
            Next year Osborn plans to attend Chapman University and play soccer competitively, as well as coach soccer later on.

KELSEY MCCALL:

            A four year varsity cross country runner, Kelsey McCall was voted the Royal C by the entire boys and girls team. A senior and captain this year, as well as a captain last year, McCall has been a dedicated runner all throughout high school. Girls cross country took home sixth place in state.
            To McCall, Royal C meant she did her job in giving the team the support and encouragement they needed to succeed. She received this same support from her coach Tony Cantwell, who she described as "positive, personal and encouraging."
            The highlight of her season was going to state with everyone. "This was the time when we finally became a family," and going to the district meet when everyone got an individual personal record.
            Next year McCall hopes to attend Boston University, Santa Clara or Lehigh and continue running.

ETHAN LIVERMORE:

            Senior and co-captain Ethan Livermore ran his second year with boys cross country and was voted the Royal C by the whole cross country team. The differences between last year and this year were huge for Livermore, as he became less focused personally and more focused on the team being strong as a whole.
            A big emphasis this year was running as a team, which helped bond the teammates as well as improving times. Boys varsity cross country took second in state this year, which was Livermore's season highlight.
            “Royal C means a lot to me, because it was voted by both varsity and junior varsity and it tells me I really made an impact," said Livermore.
            Livermore plans to run at a collegiate level next year, and continuing to run far past that.

REID WILLIAMS:

Senior Captain Reid Williams has been a four year varsity football player and was voted Royal C by his team. As well as Royal C, Williams also received second team defensive line and honorable mention tackle in the PIL.
            After years of hard work from a majority of the team the Warriors pulled through the season with great chemistry and ended the season with a 4-5 record. One of the biggest games of the season was Williams' season highlight: the rival game versus Franklin, where Cleveland came out to win in the last few minutes. This was a big moment to Williams' because Cleveland had not beaten Franklin back to back in 30 years.
            While Williams does not plan to continue playing football, he had a great final season with a group of good guys and "the best staff in PIL for the past four years."

CALLIE KREVANKO:

Junior Captain Callie Krevanko won the Royal C award for cheerleading after three years of dedication to the team. The team has grown and improved from last year and this has created a strong team.
            “We really grew as cheerleaders and teammates, we're all really close," said Krevanko, who also commented that because they're all friends they have been very productive. With the amount of support and respect they all have towards each other they are able to work together and perform better.
            Support from their coach Brianna McCain also led to success, as she cares about everyone as both cheerleaders and people.
            Receiving Royal C was a big honor to Krevanko because it showed how much her team cared for her. Krevanko plans to continue cheering next year.
