Valedictorian Ashley Dantoin receives an award from Mr. Bousley. - Staff

On Wednesday, May 19 high school students gathered in the auditorium to receive recognition at the Student Achievement Night. Awards were given for scholarships, physical education, honor roll, leadership, and other reasons. Recipients of the awards ranged from sophomores to seniors.

The majority of the awards given out were to seniors for scholarships. They were handed out first and were followed by vocational awards, fine arts awards, honor roll awards, and other academic awards.

Some students received a lot of money in scholarships for college. Even those who didn’t receive a lot of money in scholarships should appreciate what they received, as every little bit helps. At the end of the night, the students who walked away with the most awards were Chelsea Marin with twelve, Eric Lardinois with eleven, and Allycia Bretl with ten.

Only two seniors made the high honor roll seven semesters and were rewarded with a plaque: valedictorian, Ashley Dantoin, and salutatorian, Chelsea Marin. Fourteen students received a certificate for being on the high honor roll for five or six semesters, and twenty-two students received a letter for making it three or four semesters.

Underclassmen awards were given to Cynde Ploor and Nicole Hansen (Girls Physical Education Award), Mari McClelland (Earthwatch Scholarship), Dakota Chase (Rotary Club Vocational Award – Woods and Construction), Jordon Jandrin (Rotary Club Vocational Award – Drafting/CAD), Taylor Carstens (Rotary Club Fine Arts Award – Art), and those who received an award for being on the honor roll as well as three representatives for Badger State.

Hopefully, attending the program will encourage the underclassmen to apply for scholarships so they can get awards as seniors.  There are many scholarships out there, so if you have done well in school it won’t hurt to apply for some. It can only help, and maybe you’ll be one of the students receiving more than ten awards.
