Dear Class of 2010,

We have all been awaiting Graduation Day since we walked into high school as freshmen. We say that we want to get out of this place and move on to bigger and better things. Even as salutatorian, I am guilty of having a little bit of senioritis in me, and I know I see a little senioritis in our classmates. Even though we are ready to take the next step in life and leave Southern Door High School without looking back, I want you to pause and think about how being at Southern Door really has shaped us into the adults that we are about to become.

Think about it—we have been together for thirteen years. We learned our ABC’s and played in the log cabin together in Kindergarten. We danced and sang our hearts out in our 5th grade musical. We learned to cope with the loss of a close friend and classmate. We went to Washington D.C. and graduated from 8th grade at the top of the totem pole. As we entered high school, we moved back to the bottom of that totem pole and survived freshman jokes and Algebra. We won the PowderPuff Championship as sophomores, successfully planned our junior prom, and survived the ACT and college application process. Now we are weeks away from leaving all of these memories of each other, and I am sad to leave such a great group of seniors.

We are young adults with bold futures ahead of us. Whether we go to college, the workforce, or the army, we will all have a positive impact on society. We will walk across the stage on May 30th and receive the ticket to the rest of our lives. On that glorious day, I want you to remember what our class and our school has done for us. Our teachers, parents, and friends are the reasons why we are future graduates of Southern Door High School. Think about all of the things we have learned and how we have grown as adults at Southern Door. Be thankful for the memories and all of the people that are important to you. Never lose sight of yourself and thank you all for the memories you have provided me with.

Good luck in the future Class of 2010!

Sincerely,

Chelsea Marin
