Example of grinding - Konnie K
Two Wisconsin schools, Union Grove High School and Menomonee Falls High School, are banning grinding, a style of dance some say simulates sex. This action is causing a split between students, parents, and faculty. Grinding's mechanics are quite simple with one participant, usually female, backing up into the pelvic region of participant two and performing a "rubbing effect". \

Some students are so upset with the ban that they're refusing to go to the dances. Some supportive parents are even allowing students to dance at alternative locations. One student said, "It's our way of culture now. It's how we dance." Union Grove is going as far as to install cameras to moniter the students' dance moves.

While this may be news to Wisconsin teens, similar instances are occuring all over the nation; a Vermont high school cancelled dances and Romeo High School in Michigan required students to sign a contract requiring "proper conduct".

Cameras and contracts are potentially controversial, making way for potential lawsuits for restricting students' rights. One individual suggested on Parent Forum that parents should go to the school dances and also grind, saying grinding would "go out faster than the Macarana."
