At-a-glance

As the first semester comes to an end, the semester exams will commence on January 18th and 19th for all high school students. The first day of exams, January 18, is reserved for the odd class periods, which include 1st hour, 3rd hour, 5th hour, and 7th hour. The second day of exams, January 19, will be reserved for the even class periods, including: 2nd hour, 4th hour, 6th hour, and 8th hour.

The schedule for exams has been altered in order to give students the opportunity to take their time on their exams. Each class period will equal out to 90 minutes and breaks in between classes will be approximately ten minutes.

One of the advantages of semester exams is that Southern Door has an open campus on these two days. Students are allowed to leave the school during study halls and the lunch hour. If students don't have the ability to leave campus, they are welcome to eat lunch in the cafeteria, or play friendly games of basketball or ping pong during their study halls.

Students are encouraged to study for these exams as they will have a great affect on the grade the student receives in the given class. In some classes, the exam will make up 10% of the semester grade, while in others it won't have as much as an impact to the student's grade.

The weeks before exams have been quite stressful for some students with all of the projects and tests teachers have squeezed in before exams as well as trying to fit in studying time for their semester exams. Gabby P., a sophomore, says "I don't really stress too much about exams, but I know they are very important."
