We have many athletic traditions at Highlands, but not all Highlands’ traditions involve sports. Some are also about helping the community. One of these service traditions is the annual canned food drive. Many people do not know that our own student council organizes the drive every year.

"We have been doing this for as long as I can remember," said Mrs. Majors, student council coordinator. "We want each student to bring in 10 cans or $5 to help the hungry."

The collected cans and the money are donated to either the Hosea House or the Brighton Center, two organizations that help provide clothes, food and a place to stay for the less fortunate.

"I think we will do well with it because the kids at Highlands always participate and really appreciate what it can do to help people in need," said senior student council president Samson Lewis.

The canned food drive took place November 7, through November 17, and a large amount of goods and money were collected for the needy.

Great job, Bluebirds!
