"Pass the coffee…oh gosh I’m tired”

If you’re a high school student you probably hear this every morning.

Experts recommend that teens should get 8 ½ to 9 ½ hours of sleep every night. But 85 % of teens get less than that! Not getting enough sleep is a serious problem. It could affect your health, mood, learning ability, productivity, and safety. Did you know that being awake for 18 hours is equal to a blood alcohol level of 0.08 In this era of technology with computers, video games, and cell phones there are just too many distractions and teens are going to sleep later than they should. This is why lots of students either oversleep or are just tired during the school day.

Good advice is to try to go to bed earlier and not eat heavy food late at night. If you still feel drowsy you can take a power nap after school. A nap is considered half an hour only. A good bedtime is around 9:30.because this gives a good amount of time to reenergize and wake up refreshed.
