Are you worrying about application deadlines, essay revisions, and academic resumes? Do you feel a sense of anxiety when you think of acceptance letters and financing college?

For many high school seniors, the most stressful time of the year or most stressful process is college applications. Many students feel a sense of anxiety concerning applying to the right colleges, getting accepted to those colleges, and then figuring out how to afford the expenses that surround it.

This lengthy process can cause students to feel pressured to apply to the best colleges and to write the perfect essay. According to Family Education, “there is such a thing as doing too much. If you're researching the hundredth school or working on your fiftieth draft of revisions, stop and think about whether you're going too far and whether what you have isn't good enough already.” It is always important to know the limitations and when you are going overboard. If you feel as if you are, take a step back; this could really help with relieving some stress.

Another way to relieve the extensive stress of college applications is by making sure you spread things out and not tackling tasks all at the last minute. By scattering different sections of the process out, you give yourself the opportunity to focus on each specific section of the application. If you feel like you are being crammed with the process, it is always a good idea to take some time off and do something you enjoy. This can give you a clear head when you come back to your task.

Although this process can seem very stressful, remember that you are not alone and there are plenty of ways to alleviate the pressure of applying to colleges. A majority of seniors can relate and knowing little tips such as knowing when to take breaks and spreading things out can really help with your anxiety.
